Megan Longley

Megan Longley joined the Legal Network’s board of directors in 2016.

Megan graduated from Schulich School of Law at Dalhousie University in 1994 and was called to the Nova Scotia Bar in 1995. She joined Nova Scotia Legal Aid in 1999. Since joining Legal Aid, Megan has worked primarily as a criminal lawyer, practicing in the Youth Justice Court for much of that time and becoming manager of that office in 2011. In 2015, Megan became Service Delivery Director  and then in 2016 Executive Director of Nova Scotia Legal Aid.

Megan is past president of the Nova Scotia Criminal Lawyers’ Association, was a former executive member on the board of the AIDS Coalition of Nova Scotia and also sits on several court and justice committees. Megan became interested in HIV criminalization in 2013, when she successfully defended two cases before the Youth Justice Court. She has presented at local, provincial and national conferences on youth justice and on the criminalization of HIV following a significant reported decision in that area.

Megan joined the Legal Network board after doing some previous work with the organization.
