The shelter operates from a Housing First (an approach centred on moving people to independent and permanent housing) and harm reduction framework. The shelter includes 32 beds for single women and 21 family units. The shelter includes physically accessible units and pet-friendly units.<\/p>\n<div class=\"su-row\"><div class=\"su-column su-column-size-1-3\"><div class=\"su-column-inner su-u-clearfix su-u-trim\">\n<h3 class=\"p1\">Maintaining Low-Barrier Admissions<\/h3>\n<\/div><\/div> <div class=\"su-column su-column-size-2-3\"><div class=\"su-column-inner su-u-clearfix su-u-trim\">\n<p>The Welcome Centre maintains low-barrier access to shelter by:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Supporting women and families regardless of drug use;<\/li>\n<li>Avoiding scrutiny of participants\u2019 personal belongings;<\/li>\n<li>Allowing participants to possess drugs on site, provided they are stored safely in participants\u2019 units;<\/li>\n<li>Initiating conversations when drugs are found in shared spaces rather than punitive responses;<\/li>\n<li>Emphasizing creative solutions to safety concerns rather than expulsion whenever possible; and<\/li>\n<li>Providing physically accessible shelter units and pet-friendly accommodations.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n<div class=\"su-divider su-divider-style-default\" style=\"margin:30px 0;border-width:1px;border-color:#ccc\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"su-row\"><div class=\"su-column su-column-size-1-3\"><div class=\"su-column-inner su-u-clearfix su-u-trim\">\n<h3 class=\"p1\">Creating Flexible &amp; Participant-Centred Expectations<\/h3>\n<\/div><\/div> <div class=\"su-column su-column-size-2-3\"><div class=\"su-column-inner su-u-clearfix su-u-trim\">\n<p>The Welcome Centre\u2019s approach is grounded in individualized support and participant-defined goals.
