{"id":15120,"date":"2016-11-17T10:48:44","date_gmt":"2016-11-17T15:48:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.aidslaw.ca\/site\/?p=15120"},"modified":"2022-10-04T13:03:28","modified_gmt":"2022-10-04T17:03:28","slug":"respect-for-communities-act-the-case-for-repeal","status":"publish","type":"publication22","link":"https:\/\/www.hivlegalnetwork.ca\/site\/respect-for-communities-act-the-case-for-repeal\/","title":{"rendered":"RESPECT FOR COMMUNITIES ACT: The Case for Repeal"},"content":{"rendered":"The so-called <em>Respect for Communities Act<\/em> was passed in 2015 in the last Parliament, with the clear goal of impeding the expansion of supervised consumption services (SCS).<\/p>\n<p>The Act is an affront to the extensive scientific evidence of the need for such health services and their benefits \u2014 including connecting people to other health care services, and preventing the spread of infection and overdose deaths. It contradicts the ruling of the Supreme Court of Canada in the \u201cInsite case.\u201d The hurdles and delays the Act creates are unjustifiable, discriminatory and deadly.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Act should be repealed immediately<\/strong>.
