On April 27, 2020, Edmonton City Councillor Jon Dziadyk stated he wants to explore\u00a0options for accelerating the\u00a0permanent closure of Body Rub Centres in the next annual update, given that the Centres are\u00a0currently closed. This Notice of Motion was laid over on May 11, 2020.<\/p>\n

The Canadian HIV\/AIDS Legal Network believe that when developing law and policy that directly affects sex workers, it is vital to centre their\u00a0perspectives. Workers in Edmonton are strongly opposed to the closure of their\u00a0workplaces. In addition, research from Canada and beyond underscore how the closure of sex\u00a0workers\u2019 workplaces under the guise of \u2018protection\u2019 results in less safe working environments for\u00a0workers.<\/p>\n

We make this submission to urge Edmonton City Council to reject any proposal to\u00a0permanently shut down the city\u2019s Body Rub Centres.<\/strong><\/p>\n
